Student opportunities and activities

At Hurstville South Public School, we offer a variety of programs in the classroom and across the school to help students build new skills, make friends and explore new interests.

Our extra-curricular highlights

Language Program

Our languages program includes Community Languages other than English (CLOTE) for native Chinese speakers and our Languages other than English (LOTE) program for non-native Chinese speakers. Students participate in emersive language classes each week.

Creative and performing arts

Our drama, music and art programs help students be creative and express themselves. They can join in concerts, art shows and drama activities.

Debating and public speaking

Students can develop their thinking, communication and teamwork skills through debating and public speaking. They also have the chance to compete in local and state events.

Trips and excursions

Our students enjoy getting out of the classroom to explore, learn and try new things. These experiences help them grow, build confidence and see how their learning connects to the world.

Band Program

Our School Band program offers a musical journey from beginner to confident young musicians! The BandTime program uses the Concert Band format with weekly full band rehearsals and smaller group tutorials led by expert instrumental specialists. The Training Band enjoys a Bandtastic excursion and has the opportunity to play alongside students from other schools. Students also have opportunities to perform at school events in front of parents and peers, and the performing band can attend Band Camp in Term 3. Students are able to discover a passion for music and grow their skills in a supportive and fun environment!
